Hypertension has become a common problem in Singapore. About 1 in 4 Singapore residents aged 30 to 69 years have hypertension. The older you are, the more likely you are to have hypertension. In the 60 – 69 years age group, more than 1 in 2 persons have hypertension.

Blood pressure is the force at which blood pumps from the heart into the arteries. A normal blood pressure reading is less than 120/80 mm Hg.
When blood pressure is high, the blood moves through the arteries forcefully. This puts increased tension on the arteries and damages the blood vessels.
There are many ways to reduce your Blood Pressure – exercise, weight loss, healthy diet, sodium reduction etc. However, one overlooked strategy is managing stress. Body Society will share ways to combat against stress to keep your blood pressure down.
Get Enough Sleep

As mentioned in the previous article, lack of sleep would lead you to various issues. Feeling anxious, irritable, forgetful and unable to concentrate. With that being said, inadequate or poor-quality sleep can negatively affect your mood, mental alertness, energy level, and physical health.
Practice Relaxation Techniques

Living in Singapore, we are always “kan chiong”- uptight. We are so used to this lifestyle till we forget what it’s like to take it easy and relax. Take some time off your day to just calm yourself down. Try meditation, progressive muscle relaxation and deep breathing exercises. These are powerful stress-busters.
Sharpen your Time Management Skills

We all have the same 24 hours each day. It’s tough juggling your career, family, social life and have time to take care of yourself. Be efficient with your time. Organise your day and have it all planned out in advance and I assure you, it will lower down your stress level.
Nurture Yourself

Pamper yourself! Let loose! Treat yourself to a massage, go watch a movie, have a meal at your favourite restaurant, take a nap, listen to your favourite music. You deserve it after all the hard work you’ve put in.
Practice Gratitude
